Students from Ely College took part in their first competition on the River Cam, racing EAYR partner school North Cambridge Academy.

Following a recent meeting between the Isle of Ely Rowing Club, Ely College & East Anglia Youth Rowing we are pleased to share our commitment to continue working together to provide rowing opportunities to students within Ely and the surrounding area, through an ongoing programme of opportunities. It is evident that the partnership between the IoERC and Ely college is closely aligned to the aims of East Anglia Youth Rowing, and whilst independent bodies, the possibility to continue work on shared projects and opportunities remains mutually beneficial to achieving our overarching aims.

The experiences of both parties to create opportunities in the following areas means that in working together to share expertise, opportunities and existing external partnerships we can ensure that the provisions delivered continues to enhance participant experience and encourage more young people into rowing:

  • State school water based rowing programmes
  • Indoor school based rowing experiences
  • Experience days in partnership with Oxford and Cambridge Rowing Club
  • Holiday Clubs
  • School to Club pathways

It is hoped that in moving forward not only will our collaborative work ensure more students have the opportunity to take part in rowing, a sport that we all love and recognise as having significant benefits both physically and mentally, but also to enhance opportunities in coaching and leadership as we establish pathways that are sustainable with passionate and high quality coaches and volunteers.
